Q: Why did the passenger next to me on my last business flight pay a lower fare than I ?
A: Using sophisticated programs, airlines monitor and forecast seating demands on each flight, constantly adjusting the pricing and availability of seats to ensure that any given flight will be both as full and as profitable as possible. Other factors, which many travelers do not realize exist, impact the price of a flight, including variations in minimum stay requirements (such as a Saturday night), day of the week and advance purchase restrictions (7 days vs. 21). Even competitive situations may affect the fare charged for an individual seat. In addition, it is very important to realize that airlines now load fares into the reservation systems three times per day. This translates to literally hundreds of fare changes per day!! Quality International Tours’s automated fare checking system reviews passenger records 24 hours per day looking to see if lower fares have become available.

Q: Why are connecting flights sometimes less expensive than direct or non-stop flights?
A: Airlines often offer lower fares to travelers willing to make flight connections at an intermediate point for their final destination. These flights can be an excellent travel value if you can spare the time required to make a connection.

Q: Why didn’t I receive my frequent flier miles even though I booked a flight on an airline with which I am a frequent flier member?
A: In order to receive your frequent flier miles, the name printed on your ticket must exactly match the name used in your enrollment profile. Verify upon check-in that your account has been credited. If not, call the airline after your flight. They will request a copy of your boarding pass and receipt in order to credit your account with the appropriate miles. In addition, check with your travel counselor to ensure that all frequent flier membership numbers are on file with Quality International Tours, Inc.

Q: In my profile I have indicated my seat preference as an aisle seat. Why is it that there are times when my preferred seat can’t be reserved but when I get to the ticket counter or gate I am able to get my preferred seat?
A: Airlines currently block approximately 40% of their preferred seats. These seats are held for "high level" frequent flier members. With airline load factors running at an all-time high, securing a preferred seat is an industry-wide concern. As a way to try and combat this problem, Quality International Tours utilizes two different methods of trying to secure preferred seating. The first is a highly skilled quality control person who checks the reservation record at the time of booking for preferred seating.  Always inquire at the gate as to whether or not your seat preference has become available as the airlines do release the remainder of the blocked seats just prior to flight time. An airline can give away your seat if you do not check-in at least 10 minutes ahead of time for domestic flights.

PLAN YOUR TRIP IN ADVANCE WHERE POSSIBLE

Early notification provides the best chance of securing the lowest logical airfare, most convenient flight and your first choice of seats, meal preference, hotel accommodations and cars.

GIVE US THE DETAILS

When you call, have as much information ready about your trip as possible. This includes travel dates, preferred departure times, specific car rental needs, desired hotel, etc. You will expedite the booking process and reduce the need for additional calls.

LISTEN TO THE RESERVATION RECAP

Your travel counselor will recap your reservation by reading back each segment of your itinerary, including your travel dates, flights, airfare, ticket delivery information and any special requests. Please take the time to listen and make sure your travel arrangements are correct as requested

CHECK YOUR TICKETS AND DOCUMENTS

When your tickets and itinerary arrive, please review them to ensure that they accurately reflect your business travel needs. Double check any other documents you may need to bring with you at this time to be sure they are accurate and up-to-date.

CONFIRM YOUR TRAVEL PLANS

Obtain any hotel confirmations prior to your departure. Any international flights should be confirmed 72 hours before departure. In addition, international travelers should reconfirm ongoing and return reservations with the airlines at each destination.

PREPARE FOR AIRPORT CHECK-IN

Domestic and international flights now require a valid government issued photo ID as a security precaution. In general, check-in for domestic flights must be at least 60 minutes before departure; international flights require at least two hours. (Periods of high security may require even more time; check with your particular airline.)

FOR YOUR TRAVEL COMFORT AND SAFETY

BEFORE YOU LEAVE
  • Give copies of your itinerary, prescriptions (including glasses), travelers check serial numbers and charge card numbers to a family member or co-worker who can be contacted in case of an emergency.
  • Check with your Travel Counselor for the latest travel advisories, regulations on visas or vaccinations needed for international travel, and any local customs (such as dress codes) that may affect you.
  • Pack prescriptions in their original containers to avoid customs problems.
  • Bring copies of any prescriptions you may need, using the generic name of medications where possible.
    ..
IN THE AIRPORT
  • Keep composed. Rushing or harried-looking passengers’ are a prime target for pickpockets.
  • Stay alert. Walk confidently and be aware of those around you.
  • Safeguard any calling-card numbers or PIN numbers when using a telephone or ATM.
  • Keep a close watch on all personal property, especially when going through security.
  • Delay putting your luggage and laptop on the security conveyor until you are sure to be the next person through the detector. Otherwise, hand your laptop to a guard for inspection to prevent theft by others taking property on the far side of the scanner.
    ..
WHILE IN FLIGHT
  • Combat jet lag by sleeping at least a portion of any overseas flight.
  • Avoid sitting for long periods. Light exercise in your seat and a stroll in the aisle can relieve cramped muscles.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration, but avoid alcohol, coffee or sodas with caffeine.
    ..
AT YOUR HOTEL
  • Think safety as well as comfort. Do not accept a room at the end of a long corridor or isolated location. A ground floor room may provide an intruder with easy access.
  • Ask the desk attendant not to announce your room number. Use a first initial, rather than name, on the hotel registry.
  • Locate the fire exits and keep your room key on the bedside table for easy location in the dark.
  • Park in a well-lit area when returning late at night and use the hotel’s main entrance.
    ..
WHEN RENTING A CAR
  • Request vehicles that do not have a promotional sticker or license plate identifying them as rentals.
  • Consider, if available, a car equipped with a cellular phone to allow you to call for help, if necessary.
  • Inquire about refueling choices. Most car rental firms offer several options: purchase the fuel at time of rental, refill the tank before returning the car or return the car with less than a full tank of gas and pay the refueling charge.
  • Before leaving the car rental lot, walk around the car to check for damage. Note any damage on the rental agreement and notify an employee of the car’s condition.
  • Plan your route in advance. Most airport car rental companies can provide detailed maps or computerized directions.
  • Stop only at well-lit businesses or service stations. Ask the police for directions if you get lost.
  • Stop frequently for rest and a stretch on a long-distance drive. You’ll feel more alert and drive with greater safety.
