NAZCA GENERAL INFO.- One of the most fascinating testimonies of the early secret Nazca Culture are the lines engraved in the tens of square miles on the plane just north of the town Nazca. Maria Reiche, a german mathematician and geographer, has studied the lines for more than 2 decades. There are several theories for which reason the lines were made. Between landing strips for UFO's till astronomical models. Maria Reiche came to Peru in 1946, and went to the province of Palpa, to start her investigations. She wrote a small book, titled "Mystery on the desert", with her signature on the first page. Some figures are obviously drawn with examples from animals. There are many straight lines. Some of them are running in parallel for miles, running up-hill almost uninterrupted, and continuing in exactly the same direction. - By taking a light plane from the nearby airfield you have the best view over the desert and the huge figures in the desert. However, there is also a small tower, called "The Mirador", which you can climb on to view the long stretches of straight lines ending at the mountains in the distant. The lines have been preserved for such a long time because of the absence of rain in the area. However, recent climate changes, and the effects of "El Nino" caused rivers of water of heavy storms seeking a way downwards to the ocean, while destroying parts of the tens of centuries preserved figures, in the otherwise desertlike dry planes of Nazca. If these rainstorms will occur more frequently, one could ask himself, for how long the Nazca Lines can be observed in the future
