As in all Central America today, determined efforts are underway to protect the
envionment. In El Salvador teh challenge is most demanding; for the country is the most
densely populated. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of conservationists, a network of
protected areas are now secure and open to visitors.
AIR TRAVEL
Taca and American Airlines offers daily non-stop service between Miami and San Salvador.
Flight time 2hrs 35min.
TRANSPORTATION
Cuscatlan International Airport is linked to the capital by taxi and bus service. From San
Salvador the country is served by a comprehensive road system. In fact, El Salvador boast
more roads per square mile than the United States. Most of San Salvador's yellow painted
taxis do not have meters. Fix price before traveling. Buses are low cost with frequent
service throughout the country.
POPULATION
El Salvador is the smallest country on the mainland of the Americas. Total land area is
8,124 sq.miles or roughly the size of Massachusetts.

The Colon, often popularly called a "peso".
LANGUAGE
Spanish is the official language with ancient Indian languages like Nathuatl spoken in
rural areas.
WEATHER
One of El Salvador's b;essings is the country's delightful climate. Average annual
temperature in capital city San Salvador (2,200ft) is 72F. Best months are November
through April. Rainy season is May through october, but even then there's plenty of
sunshine.

PACIFIC SURFING
One may often see El Salvador's most popular surfing spot from your airplane window just
before landing; for the small, coastal town of La Libertad (20,000pop) lies just a few
miles west to the airport. An easy 30 minute drive from the heart of the Salvadoran
capital, is a laid-back village that welcomes surfers and sporadically hosts championship
